Texas Tech University | Lubbock, TX

May 20, 2012 by E. Casa de Calvo

One of Lubbock’s trademarks is its flat land. Whenever it rains, flash flooding is a problem due to poor drainage (again, a product of extremely flat land). If you were unfortunate enough to be caught walking during a shower, expect to get soaked, even with an umbrella. After a few minutes it will feel like you are walking through inches of water. These pictures were taken on a rainy day, thus the fond memories of Lubbock rain.

National Ranching Heritage Center (Exterior) | Lubbock, TX

May 20, 2012 by E. Casa de Calvo

The center covers a lot of ground; over twenty acres. You can take a mini journey thorough the ranching history of the area by touring restored structures (homes, barns, schoolhouses, etc.). The tour begins with a dirt floor structure, and ends with a modern day structure. It is a walk through time. Some structures are even open for exploration.

Lubbock Lake Landmark | Lubbock, TX

May 12, 2012 by E. Casa de Calvo

The Lubbock Lake Landmark is an archeological and natural history preserve. No actual lake exists here, but an attempt to create one in the 1930’s revealed artifacts of inhabitants spanning nearly 12,000 years. The sculptures below are said to be reconstructed from bones found here. You can observe actual digs, and even participate in some. This is a fascinating place!
