National Ranching Heritage Center | Exterior

May 20, 2012 by E. Casa de Calvo

Lubbock, TX ~ The center covers a lot of ground; over twenty acres. You can take a mini journey thorough the ranching history of the area by touring restored structures (homes, barns, schoolhouses, etc.). The tour begins with a dirt floor structure, and ends with a modern day structure. It is a walk through time. Some structures are even open for exploration.

West Texas

May 10, 2012 by E. Casa de Calvo

Levelland, TX ~ Levelland is about forty minutes away from Lubbock, TX. This is a nice drive if you want to get out of town for a while (assuming you live in Lubbock). Plenty of fields and sky to admire on the way, and a beautiful park and town square to enjoy when you arrive. We even drove out here once just to do laundry.

Ghost Town

May 7, 2012 by E. Casa de Calvo

Fluvanna, TX ~ We like to take detours on road trips, just to explore. However, this detour was short lived. We felt uneasy immediately upon entering the town. I’m sure this is due to watching too many “The Hills Have Eyes” flicks. Fluvanna is about an hour and a half away from Lubbock, TX. It seems this area was deserted around the 1940’s after railways were taken over by highways. As far as I can tell, it is still a ghost town.

Carlsbad Caverns National Park

May 5, 2012 by E. Casa de Calvo

Carlsbad, NM ~ Carlsbad is a neat place, but somewhat out of the way. If planning to visit, it would be best to anticipate spending the entire day, or more, here. The cavern tours can take hours depending on how far you’d like to walk. You certainly wouldn’t want to rush that, not that you could – them caves are slippery! I also enjoyed walking around outside. There are many interesting exhibits about the history of the land, the local plant/animal […]

Boise Train Depot

May 3, 2012 by E. Casa de Calvo

Boise, ID ~ The Boise Train Depot has a long history (established in 1881). In 1924 it was remodeled to reflect a Spanish style architecture. It was operational, off and on, until 1997. It is presently listed on the National Registrar of Historic Places, and is a popular tourist attraction.

The Man Who Fell to Earth

April 22, 2012 by E. Casa de Calvo

Artesia, NM ~ If you are a David Bowie fan, check out the movie “The Man Who Fell to Earth.” It was filmed in Artesia and surrounding areas, which is one of the reasons we decided to visit. The town isn’t very large, but it has tons of character and many historical elements.
