Baker Hotel, originally Hotel Colorado, was built in 1927. Present day Colorado City is a small town, with a lot of history. This hotel is a much smaller version of the famous Baker Hotel in Mineral Wells, TX.

The story of The Baker Hotel is one of triumph and decline, and hopefully a glorious rebirth! Talks are underway about restoring and re-opening the hotel, but it may take considerable effort as funds are still needed. For years the hotel was a beacon for those seeking healing through mineral water therapy, and attracted many famous people of the day. I’m a fan of detours on road trips, however, this detour was short lived. I felt uneasy immediately upon entering the town. I’m sure this is due to watching too many “The Hills Have Eyes” movies. Fluvanna is about an hour and a half away from Lubbock, TX. It seems this area was deserted around the 1940’s, after railways were taken over by highways. As far as I can tell, it is still a ghost town.
