These pictures show the route my dog and I would take along the shoreline for morning walks. According to my dog, there is no better place to poop than on the shoreline (I always pick it up, of course). The one hazy looking picture is of a Spanish style house off of a main shoreline street. I drove to Westwego, about 20 miles away from New Orleans, for a swamp tour of Bayou Segnette. I saw all kinds of neat critters; gators, birds, and the neatest of all, a family of nutrias building a nest. The tour was relaxing and peaceful. The tour guide mentioned that he used to play in these swamps as a kid… without a boat. I’m surprised he is still alive to tell about it!

These fishing boats were docked near the Market Wego. The market offers fresh fish and other local catches. These pictures were taken at the start of a swamp tour. After the tour I purchased a chicken stuffed with crawfish and dirty rice… yummmmie! The best. The fishing economy has really struggled since hurricane Katrina, so this was a somewhat somber experience, but you can’t keep the good people of Louisiana down!

This is one of the most beautiful places I’ve visited. There is so much history and beauty to behold. The time it takes to fully explore requires more than a typical weekend stay. Most of these pictures were captured while bicycling around the island, which is what most visitors do since not too many cars are transported over.

Michigan gets more beautiful the further north you go. St. Ignace is one of those northern towns. It has many beautiful attractions and is a primary port for ferries transporting people to and from Mackinac Island. This set of pictures was taken at the docks near the St. Ignace Lighthouse.
