Highway 77 | Robstown, TX

March 8, 2013 by E. Casa de Calvo

If you have ever lived in south Texas, you know that there are only two seasons: really hot (summer) and muggy/rainy (winter). Usually there isn’t much to be desired about the rainy season; mud everywhere and mosquitoes the size of hummingbirds. The one thing that is nice about this time of year is watching the sky turn beautiful colors before and after a storm. I captured these photos while driving home one afternoon. Half were taken near the Richard M. […]

South Texas Sunday | Riviera, TX

July 8, 2012 by E. Casa de Calvo

These photos were taken while on a drive to the country side. If you happen to live in these parts, you’ll know that everywhere is technically the “country side.” The Our Lady of Consolation church is located south of Kingsville, TX on Country Road 628. This church has a fascinating history; established around 1908, served as a school, convent, and place of worship for early settlers. If you are hungry after church, you can keep going east on Country Road […]

Fuel Station | Ropesville, TX

May 24, 2012 by E. Casa de Calvo

Ropesville is located about 30 minutes southwest of Lubbock, TX. These photos were taken from a gas station located right off of the highway. This was a common stopping point on road trips. There isn’t anything too impressive about this particular gas station, but what did impress me was the scale, everything seems bigger in Texas!

Garza Hotel and Theater | Post, TX

May 22, 2012 by E. Casa de Calvo

Post is a small town about 45 minutes away from Lubbock, TX. This was often a stopping point on the way out of town. These pictures were taken on a Sunday afternoon, which explains why it looks so desolate.

Ghost Town | Fluvanna, TX

May 7, 2012 by E. Casa de Calvo

I’m a fan of detours on road trips, however, this detour was short lived. I felt uneasy immediately upon entering the town. I’m sure this is due to watching too many “The Hills Have Eyes” movies. Fluvanna is about an hour and a half away from Lubbock, TX. It seems this area was deserted around the 1940’s, after railways were taken over by highways. As far as I can tell, it is still a ghost town.

Bears Knight Inn | Cascade, ID

May 6, 2012 by E. Casa de Calvo

Cascade isn’t too far from Boise. This was a wonderful getaway. I stayed at the Bears Knight Inn, a really cute place with a huge gift shop. The town was neat, but the drive up was the most interesting part. Winding up the mountains on a two lane road with ice and snow was teeth clenching.
