April 30, 2018 by E. Casa de Calvo

Washington, D.C. ~ The featured photo in this set is the “Friendship Archway,” a Chinese gate at H and 7th Street. All photos were taken in the historic Chinatown area, east of downtown along H and I and 5th and 8th street.

Ellis County Courthouse

April 27, 2018 by E. Casa de Calvo

Waxahachie, TX ~ The Ellis County Courthouse is located at 109 S. Jackson St, Waxahachie, TX 75165. This historic structure has been fully restored and is operational. You’ll need to visit in person to see the amazing architectural details, such as the gargoyles, carved faces on the columns, and granite stone at the base. If you stop by during the day you can even take a free tour. * These photos were taken in the winter of 2017.

Downtown Waxahachie

October 8, 2017 by E. Casa de Calvo

Waxahachie, TX ~ One of my favorite places to be! The people are nice, the stores are unique, and there is history at every turn. Each building has an original style and most are very well maintained. Anyone who loves antiquing should consider a weekend visit.

Historic Montréal

May 1, 2017 by E. Casa de Calvo

Montréal, Canada ~ The first photo in this series is of our hotel room at Parc Suites Hotel, 3463 Park Ave, Montreal, QC H2X 2H6, Canada (parcsuites.com). I’m sure there are fancier, newer places to stay nearby, but we greatly enjoyed this particular hotel because of the homely feel of the rooms and friendliness of the staff. You feel like you are staying in your own downtown apartment. From this location we were able to walk in all directions, exploring […]

Modern Montréal

May 1, 2017 by E. Casa de Calvo

Montréal, Canada ~ Montréal is a vibrant city, mixed with historic and modern architecture, and equally diverse citizens. Our stay here was brief, but we fell in love instantly. These photos were taken on a stroll one afternoon around the city. I usually jot down the names of the streets and major locations, but I was having too much fun sightseeing, and completely forgot to take notes. Anyhow, you’ll just have to visit to see these places for yourself!

Tulane University | Exterior

November 21, 2012 by E. Casa de Calvo

New Orleans, LA ~ This is only a glimpse of Tulane’s campus. The grounds are quite large, and we didn’t have enough time to see everything. Even still, we had a very pleasurable stroll on a very nice day!

French Quarter | Winter

September 28, 2012 by E. Casa de Calvo

New Orleans, LA ~ Another great trip to NOLA! I have such fond memories of great meals and great conversations with loved ones. We took a haunted tour of the quarter at night. It was more of a local history lecture than a ghost hunt, but still fun. The Andrew Jackson Hotel is said to be heavily haunted, and (allegedly) has very few guests who stay a full night. Walking the Quarter at night was scary enough, but loads of […]

French Quarter | Summer

September 16, 2012 by E. Casa de Calvo

New Orleans, LA ~ If you visit New Orleans, you will most likely end up in the French Quarter at some point. These photos are a glimpse of the storefronts and residential areas of the Quarter. What is hard to capture in photos is the incredibly tight space in which things are situated. I had to squat across the street and aim my camera to the sky in order to get a full shot of most buildings. Many of these […]

Peninsular Paper Company

July 17, 2012 by E. Casa de Calvo

Ypsilanti, MI ~ The Peninsular Paper plant was constructed in 1867 and closed around 2001. The building pictured is the old Peninsular Paper generator house. This structure is now officially owned by the Peninsular Apartments (not pictured; located on the opposite side of the river).  The remaining pictures are of the Huron River and of the Eastern Michigan University campus – Go EMU Eagles!
