Hok-Si-La Park | Lake City, MN

May 14, 2020 by E. Casa de Calvo

In the summer this park would be busy with campers, fishermen, and people enjoying a swim. The lake was completely frozen on this visit. You still have some fishermen in the winter, but ice fishing is rare in these parts. Still a beautiful sight to behold, much more impressive in person.

Downtown | Red Wing, MN

May 16, 2018 by E. Casa de Calvo

Red Wing is located on the Mississippi River. It is known for natural attractions, nearby Frontenac State Park is popular for birdwatching. It is also known for, you guessed it, Red Wing Shoes and Red Wing Stoneware. Most towns situated on the Mississippi make for beautiful places to visit. This town is no exception, and has a lot of historic charm.

Red Wing Amtrak Depot (RDW) | Red Wing, MN

May 16, 2018 by E. Casa de Calvo

The Red Wing Amtrak runs the Empire Builder line, which runs daily from Chicago, Seattle, and Portland, with westbound stops at Winona and Saint Paul Minnesota. The station was opened in 1905. It is located on the Mississippi River and houses the Red Wing Visitor and Convention Bureau. It was a cold day on this visit, but the station and platform were very peaceful and inviting. It is a nice place to sit and watch the trains go by.  Location: 420 […]

Wintertime | Winona, MN

December 14, 2016 by E. Casa de Calvo

This is Winona in the winter. This particular winter was mild, or so they say. As a Texan, all Minnesota winters are brutal to me. The aerial views were taken from E. Garvin Heights Rd., where you can drive all the way to the top of a bluff and see the entire city spanning the Mississippi. The ducks are swimming near the Winona Visitor’s Center, situated right on Lake Winona. The remaining city street pictures were taken from the Blue […]

Frozen Great Lakes | South Haven, MI

April 20, 2012 by E. Casa de Calvo

Photos were taken in late December. Walking on the frozen shore was fun, but a little dangerous. The wind gusts were also quite powerful.
