Rue Saint-Jean

June 6, 2015 by E. Casa de Calvo

Québec, QC Canada ~ Rue Saint-Jean was the street that we’d use to walk to and from Old Québec. This street has a beautiful mix of modern and historic architecture. As with most vacations, my fondest memories involve food. We had a wonderful breakfast at Au Bonnet D’Âne (rough translation: The Donkey Bonnet), the best tasting pesto pizza I’ve ever had in my life at Pizzeria D’Youville, and mouthwatering onion soup and banana and chocolate crepes at Au Petit Coin […]

Meatpacking District

June 4, 2015 by E. Casa de Calvo

New York, NY ~ These pictures were taken on a stroll in the Meatpacking district of Chelsea, NY. The walk began on 14th street toward The High Line, an elevated park developed from old railways. There was a surprise shower, so we exited the High Line on 18th St., toward Chelsea Piers. There are many things to do at the piers; a golf club/driving range, sports center, bowling alley, lighthouse, restaurants, and other businesses. We thought we’d wait the rain […]

Bishop Arts District

December 1, 2014 by E. Casa de Calvo

Dallas, TX ~ Located in Oak Cliff is an eclectic stretch of independent restaurants, coffee houses, and store fronts. This is a fun place to find something unique, or to just take a leisurely stroll. Parking is a bear, but worth the hassle. If you have space in your belly, give Emporium Pies a try… so delicious!

Baker Hotel

September 10, 2014 by E. Casa de Calvo

Mineral Wells, TX ~ The story of The Baker Hotel is one of triumph and decline, and hopefully a glorious rebirth! Talks are currently underway about restoring and re-opening the hotel, but it may take considerable effort as funds are still needed. For years the hotel was a beacon for those seeking healing through mineral water therapy, and attracted many famous people of the day. Mineral water still exists in these parts, but the hotel now primarily attracts urban explorers […]

Snoopy’s

February 6, 2014 by E. Casa de Calvo

Corpus Christi, TX ~ We are shivering through the third “winter vortex” blast, and I’m pining for my old hood. These pictures show the route my dog and I would take along the shoreline for morning walks. According to my dog, there is no better place to poop than on the shoreline (mommy always picks it up, of course). The one hazy looking picture is of a spanish style house off of a main shoreline street. This is architecturally an […]

USS Lexington

January 22, 2014 by E. Casa de Calvo

Corpus Christi, TX ~ The Corpus Christi Bay houses a number of attractions. These pictures were taken while visiting the USS Lexington and the Texas State Aquarium. You can swim in the bay, but you’ll see far more fishers than swimmers. It goes without saying that Texas is hot in the summers, but Corpus is unbelievably hot AND humid. The original photos had such a haze that the color was grayish. The colors have been adjusted a bit, perhaps too […]

The Guenther House

December 23, 2013 by E. Casa de Calvo

San Antonio, TX ~ The Guenther House is a beautifully restored home belonging to Carl Guenther, founder of Pioneer Flour Mills (est. 1898). The home is located in downtown San Antonio on the San Antonio River. This property also contains a museum and restaurant. The food is delicious and the atmosphere is amazing. These photos were taken on a holiday visit with family. The lines were long, but that just goes to show how great the experience is.

Sand Dunes

May 3, 2013 by E. Casa de Calvo

South Haven, MI ~ South Haven is a favorite vacation spot when in Michigan. These pictures were taken from the Van Buren State Beach & Dunes. I was too busy having fun to take a ton of pictures. Now I wish I had taken more! Running up and down huge sand dunes is the best exercise you could ever have.
