USS Lexington | Corpus Christi, TX

January 22, 2014 by E. Casa de Calvo

The Corpus Christi Bay houses a number of attractions. These pictures were taken while visiting the USS Lexington and the Texas State Aquarium. You can swim in the bay, but you’ll see far more fishers than swimmers. It goes without saying that Texas is hot in the summers, but Corpus is unbelievably hot and humid. The original photos had such a haze that the color was grayish. The colors have been adjusted a bit, perhaps too much. Anyhow, I hope […]

Sand Dunes | South Haven, MI

May 3, 2013 by E. Casa de Calvo

South Haven is a favorite vacation spot when in Michigan. These pictures were taken from the Van Buren State Beach & Dunes. I was too busy having fun to take a ton of pictures. Now I wish I had taken more! Running up and down huge sand dunes is the best exercise.

Highway 77 | Robstown, TX

March 8, 2013 by E. Casa de Calvo

If you have ever lived in south Texas, you know that there are only two seasons: really hot (summer) and muggy/rainy (winter). Usually there isn’t much to be desired about the rainy season; mud everywhere and mosquitoes the size of hummingbirds. The one thing that is nice about this time of year is watching the sky turn beautiful colors before and after a storm. I captured these photos while driving home one afternoon. Half were taken near the Richard M. […]

Port A | Port Aransas, TX

February 2, 2013 by E. Casa de Calvo

Port A, as the locals call it, is about 35 minutes away from Corpus Christi, TX. Here you will find snow birds and die hard locals. This isn’t a fancy resort spot, but it is clean and friendly. If you want beach time without crowds, this is the place to be.

Swamp Tour | Westwego, LA

October 17, 2012 by E. Casa de Calvo

I drove to Westwego, about 20 miles away from New Orleans, for a swamp tour of Bayou Segnette. I saw all kinds of neat critters; gators, birds, and the neatest of all, a family of nutrias building a nest. The tour was relaxing and peaceful. The tour guide mentioned that he used to play in these swamps as a kid… without a boat. I’m surprised he is still alive to tell about it!

Shrimp Boats | Westwego, LA

September 13, 2012 by E. Casa de Calvo

These fishing boats were docked near the Market Wego. The market offers fresh fish and other local catches. These pictures were taken at the start of a swamp tour. After the tour I purchased a chicken stuffed with crawfish and dirty rice… yummmmie! The best. The fishing economy has really struggled since hurricane Katrina, so this was a somewhat somber experience, but you can’t keep the good people of Louisiana down!

Peninsular Paper Company | Ypsilanti, MI

July 17, 2012 by E. Casa de Calvo

The Peninsular Paper plant was constructed in 1867 and closed around 2001. The building pictured is the old Peninsular Paper generator house. This structure is now officially owned by the Peninsular Apartments (not pictured; located on the opposite side of the river). The remaining pictures are of the Huron River and of the Eastern Michigan University campus. Go Eagles!

I regret only taking two pictures in Onekama, MI. These shots were taken outside of the Onekama Library.
