Modern Montréal | Montréal, Canada

May 1, 2017 by E. Casa de Calvo

Montréal is a vibrant city, mixed with historic and modern architecture. These photos were taken on a stroll around the city. I usually jot down the names of the streets and major locations, but I was having too much fun sightseeing, and completely forgot to take notes. Anyhow, you’ll just have to visit to see these places for yourself!

Wintertime | Winona, MN

December 14, 2016 by E. Casa de Calvo

This is Winona in the winter. This particular winter was mild, or so they say. As a Texan, all Minnesota winters are brutal to me. The aerial views were taken from E. Garvin Heights Rd., where you can drive all the way to the top of a bluff and see the entire city spanning the Mississippi. The ducks are swimming near the Winona Visitor’s Center, situated right on Lake Winona. The remaining city street pictures were taken from the Blue […]

Baie Saint Paul | Québec, Canada

February 10, 2016 by E. Casa de Calvo

These photos were taken while visiting Parc Boisé du Quai, at the end of Rue-Sainte Anne in the city of Baie-Saint-Paul. Discovering the park and walking trails was a pleasant surprise. Baie-Saint-Paul has many wonderful restaurants and historic attractions. I just need to brush up on my French, because this is an exclusively French speaking area. C’est la vie.

Halloween French Quarter | New Orleans, LA

November 25, 2015 by E. Casa de Calvo

I had the pleasure of visiting New Orleans near Halloween. I guess much doesn’t change in these parts, a bit spooky all year long. I did see some strange things. While dining at Ignatius on Magazine St. I witnessed a transformer blow up, knocking out power on the entire block. However, the scariest thing was the giant head of Abraham Lincoln somewhere on Royal St.

Southern Bride | New Orleans, LA

November 25, 2015 by E. Casa de Calvo

My sister entrusted me to take bridal pictures of her in preparation for her upcoming wedding. We broke many laws scouring New Orleans for the best locations. “Permits? We don’t need no stinking permits!” What you don’t see in these photos are the many onlookers shouting (mostly) words of support and encouragement. We had a lot of fun running around the city in a wedding dress, and I can’t wait to do it again… just kidding! Love you guys!

Rue Saint-Jean | Québec, QC Canada

June 6, 2015 by E. Casa de Calvo

Rue Saint-Jean was the street that I’d use to walk to and from Old Québec. This street has a beautiful mix of modern and historic architecture. I had a wonderful breakfast at Au Bonnet D’Âne (rough translation: The Donkey Bonnet), the best pesto pizza I’ve ever had in my life at Pizzeria D’Youville, and mouthwatering onion soup and banana and chocolate crepes at Au Petit Coin Breton. There is a fantastic park, Rink Place D’Youville, that is turned into an […]

Meatpacking District, Chelsea | New York, NY

June 4, 2015 by E. Casa de Calvo

These pictures were taken on a stroll in the Meatpacking district of Chelsea, NY. The walk began on 14th street toward The High Line, an elevated park developed from old railways. There was a surprise shower, so I exited the High Line on 18th St., toward Chelsea Piers.

Bishop Arts District | Dallas, TX

December 1, 2014 by E. Casa de Calvo

Located in Oak Cliff is an eclectic stretch of independent restaurants, coffee houses, and store fronts. This is a fun place to find something unique, or to just take a leisurely stroll. Parking is a bear, but worth the hassle. If you have space in your belly, give Emporium Pies a try… so delicious!

Baker Hotel | Mineral Wells, TX

September 10, 2014 by E. Casa de Calvo

The story of The Baker Hotel is one of triumph and decline, and hopefully a glorious rebirth! Talks are underway about restoring and re-opening the hotel, but it may take considerable effort as funds are still needed. For years the hotel was a beacon for those seeking healing through mineral water therapy, and attracted many famous people of the day. Mineral water still exists in these parts, but the hotel now primarily attracts urban explorers and ghost hunters. I hope […]
