Highway 77

March 8, 2013 by E. Casa de Calvo

Robstown, TX ~ If you have ever lived in south Texas, you know that there are only two seasons: hot (summer) and muggy/rainy (winter). Usually there isn’t much to be desired about the rainy season; mud everywhere and mosquitoes the size of hummingbirds. The one thing that is nice about this time of year is watching the sky turn beautiful colors before and after a storm. I captured these photos while driving home one afternoon. Half were taken near the Richard […]

Port A.

February 2, 2013 by E. Casa de Calvo

Port Aransas, TX ~ Port A, as the locals call it, is about 35 minutes away from Corpus Christi, TX. Here you will find snow birds and die hard locals. This isn’t a fancy resort spot, but it is clean and friendly. If you want beach time without crowds, this is the place to be.

Tulane University | Interior

January 31, 2013 by E. Casa de Calvo

New Orleans, LA ~ This heading is a bit deceptive. A better title would have been “Tulane Student Union.” I love taking pictures of places that look abandoned. These pictures were taken over a holiday break, thus the absence of students. It is always a pleasure to walk around feeling like you own the place!

Tulane University | Exterior

November 21, 2012 by E. Casa de Calvo

New Orleans, LA ~ This is only a glimpse of Tulane’s campus. The grounds are quite large, and we didn’t have enough time to see everything. Even still, we had a very pleasurable stroll on a very nice day!

St. Louis Cemetery No. 1

November 5, 2012 by E. Casa de Calvo

New Orleans, LA ~ If you make your way to New Orleans, the St. Louis Cemeteries are a must see. These cemeteries are said to be the oldest of its type – with above ground tombs. There are many famous people buried here, including Voodoo Queen Marie Laveau. I’m sure it is just a coincidence, but after passing her grave and making light of it, I came down with a flu bug a couple of days later. Perhaps I was […]

Swamp Tour

October 17, 2012 by E. Casa de Calvo

Westwego, LA ~ We drove to Westwego, about 20 miles away from New Orleans, for a swamp tour of Bayou Segnette. We saw all kinds of neat critters; gators, birds, and the neatest of all – a family of nutrias building a nest. The tour was relaxing and peaceful. The tour guide mentioned that he used to play in these swamps as a kid… without a boat. I’m surprised he is still alive to tell about it!

Jackson Square

October 7, 2012 by E. Casa de Calvo

New Orleans, LA ~ Jackson Square, named after Andrew Jackson, is a huge attraction in New Orleans. It is located in the French Quarter around many other historical sites, including the St. Louis Cathedral (also pictured). On almost any given day you can enjoy the works of local artists and musicians in the square. Sadly, on this given day a storm rolled in and drenched myself and my trusty camera. This was the day my first fancy camera died. : […]

French Quarter | Winter

September 28, 2012 by E. Casa de Calvo

New Orleans, LA ~ Another great trip to NOLA! I have such fond memories of great meals and great conversations with loved ones. We took a haunted tour of the quarter at night. It was more of a local history lecture than a ghost hunt, but still fun. The Andrew Jackson Hotel is said to be heavily haunted, and (allegedly) has very few guests who stay a full night. Walking the Quarter at night was scary enough, but loads of […]
